Stopping Your Dog From Whining: The Proven Approach
A whining dog can be as annoying and nerve-wracking than a barking dog. The sound of a canine whining is the most troubling dog behavior for many people. Pups in the wild instinctively whine to alert their mother when something is wrong, so that she can make correct the problem. Typically, as wild dogs mature and become more independent the whining is outgrown.
Many domestic dogs continue to utilize this method of communication well into their adult life in order to manipulate their owners. Whining and other noises that an adult, domesticated dog makes are solely for the purpose of gaining attention from the owner. Much like a mother in the wild, dog owners must curb this behavior early on in order to keep their pet's behavior in check later on in life.
Finding the cause of the whining
Generally, a dog of any age is whining with a specific purpose in mind. They have determined that auditory cues are the best way to get something that they want from you. Once you can determine what it is that your dog ultimately wants, you should be able to stop the whining. Generally, domesticated dogs will whine in an attempt to inform you that it needs food, that it needs to be let outside to relieve itself, or that it merely wants physical attention from you.
Although these are the most common reasons, your pet may be trying to tell you something else. If the animal is eating normally and experiencing the usual bowel movements, then the whining could be providing a signal that something else may be going on, that the dog is bothered by something. Whining can also indicate that your dog is in physical pain so it is vitally important that you have your dog checked out by your veterinarian to rule out any physical problems.
A whimpering dog should be treated much like a misbehaving child. The first thing is that you must recognize this as attention seeking behavior and be sure that you do not reward your dog for it by giving him what he wants. Reverse the process by interrupting the whining with an unrelated instruction, such as telling the dog to lay down or sit, which will distract his train of thought away from the initial reason for the whining. If this works and he obeys your instructions, reinforce his behavior by giving him something he likes, such as a biscuit.
If you find that your dog whines when he is not with you, this may be his way of letting you know that you are not giving him enough attention, or it could indicate separation anxiety of a general fear of abandonment. The antidote for this problem is to assist him in losing his fear of being by himself by gradually getting him used to it. Begin by sitting with him for a while, then leave him by himself over a short time interval. When you are working on this and leave the room, you dog may start whining and it is important that you do not reward the whining by immediately returning. Simply answer him with a firm "no", and then again leave the room for a brief time interval. If this is successful in stopping the whining, pause briefly, and then find a way to reinforce his correct behavior with praise. If the behavior does not cease, simply start the process from the beginning again.
Upon successful responses from the animal, gradually lengthen the time intervals that he is being left to his own devices. At some point, the pet will realize that you have no intentions of deserting him, and he will not have any need to express his fear with that constant whining. However, if your dog continues whining and you return immediately when it starts to whine then you are actually rewarding the whining, you are teaching your dog that when he whines you will come back and this will encourage your dog to continue whining. It is important that your dog understand that you are the Alpha Dog, the dominant partner, the one in control and you will find that the whining will subside in no time.
How can we stop plate tectonicists?
from teaching their religion in school as science. Its only theory, therefore a guess. It is a belief not fact. How stupid that they think that land masses move. we all know valcanoes and earthquakes mean gods angry and needs more virgin sacerfices. This is blaphemous only god can move continents there is no evidence for it and for intelligent drifting of land masses
lol plate tectonicists, is a mouthful
next week ill take on gravityists
By making the coastlines of Africa and South America less similar, and make the continents of Europe and North America stop getting 3 cm farther apart every year. This is their biggest piece of ammunition (well... that and the fact that their theory fits the preponderance of physical evidence, allows us to make predictions based on the theory that are later experimentally borne out, and are not easily falsifiable.) Next you should probably put forth a theory which meets those same criteria (and get a PhD in Geophysics so people take your idea seriously) and write a textbook.
Hope this helps...
Just read the body of your question. I'll save this for the guy that asks it in Earnest (or Roger , Jim, or Chuck)
