The Old and Oil Filled Radiators
Oil filled radiators are a cost effective way to keep warm in the colder months especially for the elderly. Oil filled radiators always come out ahead when compared to some of the more traditional heating methods such as central heating or electric and gas heaters.
Whereas central heating can be expensive to run, electric heaters can become very hot when close to them meaning they can be dangerous for children or the elderly. Electric heaters are also not as effective at heating up an entire room. The element of an electric heater is also exposed and can become dangerously hot and could become a fire hazard. The problem with gas heaters, on the other hand, is the risk of dangerous fumes escaping.
Oil filled radiators on the other hand are safer and much more energy efficient. These heaters work because they use a heat conserving oil which can be heated and then circulated around the radiator. This then has the effect of radiating heat into the room it is being utilised in. The oil inside the radiator is not burned so it never needs to be replaced making it very cost effective.
When it comes to heating for the elderly, these radiators are deemed perfect because they do not waste heat as the keep the room at the perfect temperature. We all know that the elderly really hate the winter's cold weather, and many poor souls cannot afford the extremely dear costs of heating the home at this time of year. Many times you hear stories of the elderly getting sick at this time of year because they cannot afford to switch on the central heating in the house. Well, an oil filled radiator can help alleviate all these problems because of its energy efficiency and low running costs. Not only are they energy efficient, the temperature of the surface of the radiator never reaches dangerous, for the elderly- levels.

What's the difference between an electric oil-filled radiator and a regular electric space heater?
Is there any significant difference between and two, and if so, which one works better?
Both work in essentially the same manner, electricity passing through a resistance generates heat in the resistance. Heat flows from warmer areas to cooler areas just like water always flows downhill because of gravity. In the oil filled heater, the heat passes from the heating element to the oil and then to the surrounding air, where it heats through both convection and radiation. In the space heater, air is used to be heated directly by the heating elements and a fan is used to move the air. The heating element both heats the moving air and radiates. The major differences are the space heater relies on the fan to move air and the oil filled has the intermediate step of the oil and usually does NOT use a fan to force air to move. The oil heater radiates more than heats air and the space heater heats air more than radiates. The differences are not significant.
